Blurb

Jenna Ward is vivacious, spontaneous, and confident—except when she’s around the man who stole her heart years earlier, strikingly handsome, quiet, and reliable Pete Lacroux. After years of trying to get his attention and overwhelmed from dealing with her mother’s new cougar lifestyle, Jenna’s giving up on Peter—and is ready to explore other men.
As the eldest of five siblings, with an alcoholic father to care for, boat craftsman Pete Lacroux always does the right thing and has no time for a real relationship. He’s looking forward to seeing his friend Jenna, a welcome distraction who’s so sexy and painfully shy that she equally entertains and confuses him.
When Jenna picks up a hard-bodied construction worker, jealousy ignites Pete’s true feelings, and he’s unable to ignore the desires for Jenna he never realized he had. But Pete’s not the quiet guy he appears to be, and his life is anything but conducive to a relationship. Can Jenna handle the real Pete Lacroux—the most alpha male she’s ever seen—or will she crack under pressure? And can Pete reclaim the life he once had without tearing apart his family?
Hearts at Seaside is the sweet edition of the steamy romance novel Seaside Hearts by Melissa Foster.

Pure delight!

Take a quirky, sweet Jenna, throw in sexy Pete and a group of fun-loving friends and some loyal family members, and you have one helluva story – one that was most definitely a one-sitting read that touch my heart, made me smile, and doubled my desire for the series.

Jenna has been in love with Pete for years…so much so that she loses her ability to think and speak clearly whenever he’s near. Pete is attracted to Jenna, but he thinks she’s too shy for him and his like of bold women. However, when Jenna picks up a construction worker right in front of Pete, he a little confused and a whole lotta jealous.

Time to stake his claim, and claim his woman.

Let the fun commence!

So this was’t my first visit to Seaside; however, since I’m reading this standalone series out of order, I won’t go into too much detail about my first encounter. I will say, that I’m thrilled that I got the chance to go back and see how it all began for Jenna and Pete. I want to do the same with the other couples, as well. They’re perfectly in sync as a group, and Jenna and Pete make a beautiful couple. I was glad that Jenna was trying to get over him. Not because I didn’t want her with him, but because the attempt showed her strength. She was a pretty cool mix of sassy and shy, and her obsession with organization made her that much more lovable. Pete is all alpha-male. I loved the way he let her know he wanted a relationship. Nothing flashy, but straightforward without simply saying “I want a relationship”.

I’m not sure what to say about Jenna’s mom. My heart went out to her, and I wanted to cheer her own, but at the same time tell her to tone it down. She was a refreshing character, just like all the others. I’d heard about Pete’s father in the other book I’d read, but this was a different side that elaborated on a few statements in the other book, not that I was confused, but it does give me an in-depth look at him that makes me like him even more now that I see what he’s been through. What the whole family’s gone through.

Cole has expertly touched on a sensitive subject without tainting the romance. Jenna and Pete are very supportive of each other, and their friends are right there with them. The pace is steady and the flow is smooth. There’s plenty of set-up for the sequels. I’m excited about continuing on. I always am when I read one of Foster’s…ahem, Cole’s books. 🙂

Rating system: Cups of Coffee (the less the better)

0: You won’t need any coffee to stay up for this one. It’s intriguing enough all on its own.
1: You’ll stay up late, but not all night. Brew one cup.
2: You’ll read as long as you’re not tired. If you are, two cups should do the trick.
3: I hope you got plenty of rest; you’ll need it, or at least 3 cups.
4: If the cable goes out, read the book. It’s better than nothing, I guess. Oh, don’t forget your brew!
5: Find anything else to do- it doesn’t matter what it is. Don’t waste your coffee. Too much caffeine is bad for you.

My rating: 0 cups of coffee

“This doesn’t feel like a first date, Jenna. It feels like you’ve been with me all my life.”
“If I’d been with you all your life, your closet would be organized.”
He glanced into his closet, which was neat and orderly, but not color coordinated, and the thought that her mind had gone there so soon made him laugh.
“You have a point.” He lowered his forehead to hers. “I’m serious, though. All these years we’ve known each other, and this. You being here with me. It feels so right.” He kissed her cheek and loved the way she closed her eyes the second his lips touched her skin, like she was savoring his touch.
“In my heart I was with you all these years; you just never noticed.”
