She had no clue her life changed with that simple ‘yes’

Blurb

He’s impulsive, fearless, and fun loving.
Erik Axelsson, Ax, had it all: talent, fame, money. He’d lived the rock & roll life fully and with gusto until it wasn’t fun anymore. Without a second thought, he’d traded the spotlight with the Floridian sun, and the guitar with a surfboard. Young, rich, and free from anything – what more he could need?

She’s innocent, scared, and in trouble.
Andrea Smith escaped the life imposed to her when her parents joined a cult. After years on the run, hunger pushed her to accept a stranger’s offer for breakfast. She had no clue her life changed with that simple ‘yes’.

But the past catches up with her, forcing Andrea to choose what person she wants to be: the scared cult member that obeyed in silence, or the new woman Erik made blossom.

Excerpt

Erik brushed his palm on his prickling shoulders as the angry sun hit, leaving only salt where ocean drops had been a few minutes before. He revered in that roasting pleasure, in the blues of the sky and water surrounding him. Entertained by his unplanned guest, he pulled his dripping hair into a messy bun.
It had been a good day for surfing, with waves still crashing on the shoreline. The rumble must have hidden the croaky zip of the tent’s zipper because when he looked down at the entrance, he found two huge brown eyes staring at him.
The echo of lifetimes ago, distant, feeble, poked at him. The feeling dwelling into his heart after his parents had died, now lingered on her delicate features. Fear.
The girl took a breath, clenched her teeth and crawled out. She rose on all of her five feet five or so. “Who–” she cleared her throat. “Who are you?”
Wasn’t that a question he wasn’t used to? Everybody knew Ax and the Hurricanes. He’d spent ten years of his life on everybody’s mouth, eyes and above all, ears. Newspapers. TV. Concerts. Surprise for the question shadowed the male appreciation of the woman in front of him. For now. He’ll so be back at that.
“I think the question is, who are you?” he retorted, crossing his arms over his chest.
“A camper.”
“Well, camper, your tent is on my property, in case you missed that,” he said pointing at the Private Property notice on the berm not far from her den. He had to invest some money into a proper sign, he thought when he eyed the rusty, barely visible sign. “My house’s back there, anyway.”
She turned around, took those details in. “Oh.”
Erik used that time to make some math. A girl, alone, in an old tent. The black bag he’d peeked to with clothes in it. That look in her eyes. He sighed. “You hungry?”
She nodded.
“Let’s go.”
He took his surfboard and turned to go. “What?” he asked when she didn’t move.
“I–I don’t know you.”
Yeah, okay, back to that. She either had lived on the moon for the past fifteen years or was bullshitting him. He would give her the benefit of the doubt because she was hot, and keep Sheriff Charlie on speed dial for a while. He turned around. “I’m Erik Axelsson.”
He waited for his name to dawn on her. Nothing. Seriously?
“I’m Andrea Smith.”
“All right, Andrea Smith. I’m hungry, covered in sand, and the sun is cooking my brain. I’m going in, you do as you please.”

WELCOME TO CRESCENT CREEK!

2017-03-13 09.50.50 amFrom the cold Canadian border, the US1 runs along the east coast with patience.
Throughout its 2,369 miles, it braces itself in the northern winters, sighs with pride in Richmond. It falls west in the Carolinas, to stroke the great smoky mountains with loving eyes. And it’s south, still south, through the marshes and plantations of Georgia.
Finally, it indulges in sun, white sand, and oranges. The Sunshine State.
Not the fastest way, sure, but if you have time to drive it all the way down, you might find yourself lost in one of the coastal towns that dot the US1 like little jewels. Maybe that town’s name is Crescent Creek. God knows if I stumbled upon it by chance.
Crescent Creek is a lot like my own town–sandy, hot, with a lot of blue coming from the uncluttered sky and the ocean.
How did I find out about it?
Well, it was thanks to a (hopefully) common friend you and I have, Erik Axelsson.
I met him when I wrote his and Andrea’s story, She Came With The Tide. At some point, he told me that when he had enough of his rock & roll lifestyle, the only place he could think of settling down was the town he was born in, Crescent Creek. He was Erik there, not Ax. Nobody actually cared too much about Ax. Plus, the whole town was very protective of him, and made the transition from stardom to normality easier.
Thanks to him I met Charlotte O’Brien, Sheriff Charlie. And that’s pretty much how it started. I paid some visits to the town, met too many interesting people to just pass the opportunity to write their stories. 2017-03-13 09.40.09 am
The May family, the owners of May’s Bakery; Eva, the fearless reporter for the Crescent Creek News; the Beckett brothers. Scott Beckett, owner of the restaurant Scott’s, told me his story–well, his and DJ’s. I started writing it. Thinking about all the others, too.
See, the point is, that while I get to know so many new people, if I stay in Crescent Creek I get to catch glimpses of friends I already know. I can have actual updates on how their lives are going after that happily ever after. Which is why I’ll spend some good time in here.
I hope you’ll stay with me, us, for a while.

Drummer Micah Sullivan lost his music and his dreams when his wife died unexpectedly. In the emotional aftermath, he quit his successful country band and pushed away his family and friends. Three years later, he’s opened a music shop on Hale Street in Nashville and tells himself he’s content trying to make it a hit. What he failed to consider is that success requires connections—including the very ones he turned his back on.
Sloan McGuire is up for a new challenge…never realizing it might lead to heartbreak. When she takes a job as entertainment manager at a bar not known for its music, she doesn’t bargain for running into Micah, whose late wife was her best friend. She can tell within minutes that he’s still grieving. Out of love for her friend, she attempts to reconnect with the reclusive drummer. Falling for him isn’t in the plans, though—not only because he was married to her friend but because she’s been second-best before, and she never wants to play that role again.
As Micah starts finding his rhythm, life throws him a different beat. But with a little improvisation and a lot of courage, he just might tap into the one and only connection he needs.

While the collection of professional hats she wears sounds a bit scattered and broad, the common thread among all of them (perhaps the little ball on top of each hat) is the written word. She loves words and grammar and meaty, engrossing stories with complex characters.

In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, breaking up cat fights, watching college hoops, and annoying her family by correcting their grammar.

Q&A with Amy Knupp

How did you come up with the concept and the characters for the story?

Micah Sullivan, the hero, showed up in my first book in the series (Sweet Spot) wanting to rent space for a music store on Hale Street. Whenever a new character is mentioned in a scene, I go to Pinterest and find inspiration for the character so I can better describe him or her. The photo I found of Micah is (of course) hot, but in it, he’s not happy, and that got my imagination going. Why isn’t he happy? (Turns out his wife died unexpectedly three years ago.) He’s also wearing a hood in it, and that led me to think about why he might be “hiding.” (In a nutshell, grief, sadness, and a little bit of guilt.) His journey drives the story, so in this case, the picture was sort of worth 75,000 words. 

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

The Hale Street series is a multi-author series I’m writing with two of my best friends, Emily Leigh and Natasha Lake. While each story is stand-alone, we collaborate constantly on the setting and character crossover, and the collaboration is the very best part. The synergy the three of us have makes writing kind of magical, even on the hard days. If I’m struggling with a plot point, my girls are all over it with me because they know my characters almost as well as I do. Plus we do girls’ writing retreat weekends a few times a year and a weeklong private writing retreat in a lake cottage each summer. Not only is it great for the writing but it’s soul time.

What gave you the most trouble with this story?

It was a challenge to take Micah from a grieving, hiding-from-life man to a happy, in-love one. You can’t rush grief. Further complicating things was that his heroine, Sloan, was his wife’s best friend. That’s not the main conflict between them, but I couldn’t gloss over it either.

What 5 things should readers know about you?

1. ONE AND ONLY is my 18th published book and my favorite one (at least today!)
2. I have four cats and have told my husband he can never leave me or I’ll be a cat lady.
3. Making decisions is often excruciating for me. I can weigh pros and cons until my eyes cross.
4. I have an obsession with office products—pens, Post-its, pretty notebooks, gel pens, colored binder clips, penguin-shaped paper clips…
5. I live in Wisconsin, the cheese state, but I can’t eat dairy. Before that, I lived in Kansas, the wheat state, but I can’t eat gluten.

FB-Ad-One-and-Only-F3-Final

What do you like best about being a writer? What is the most challenging part?

This might be revealing my inner geekiness, but I love the psychology aspect of writing two people who fall in love. When two people come together with an assortment of baggage, you’ve got a lot of stuff to work through, and I love the puzzle of it all and figuring out how the pieces go together. I love it especially after the hard part’s all done!

What do you do when you are not writing?

Work-wise, I’m a full-time freelance copyeditor, so I read all day every day (and correct grammar, etc. to my OCD heart’s content). I get to read/edit just about every genre/sub-genre imaginable, though more than half my projects are romance. Tough job but somebody has to do it! I feel blessed that I can say honestly I love what I do. Between freelancing, which can mean working weekends and holidays, and raising two teenage boys with my husband, I manage to maintain a fairly high level of crazy.

Can you tell us about your upcoming book?

I don’t know a lot yet because I’m in the early stages of writing it, but my next book, out this summer, is a novella about two characters from ONE AND ONLY. Lena Kessler is the oldest of four sisters and the only one still single. She longs for love and babies like the rest of her family has. Former NHL player Ash McGuire is the last person who could give her what she dreams of but the only one she wants.

His eyes were closed, and he was … lost in the music. No question about it.
He wore headphones, so whatever song he was playing to, she couldn’t hear, and he was jamming out hard enough that his hair was flopping all over the place. His whole body was in action as his sticks flew from one element to another. It seemed wild and out of control and … God, so sexy.
Sloan frowned at the thought, intended to get his attention and put an end to her private ogling session, but she couldn’t make herself do it quite yet. Because she was riveted by the sight. The expressions on his face, so animated, so full of feeling. The way his biceps flexed and rippled, partially visible beneath his T-shirt sleeves. His hands, in command of two thin wooden sticks, able to make such powerful, moving music. It was just percussion, but she felt it in her chest. The beats, yes, but also the emotion. And Micah himself.

I wouldn’t mind letting the beast take a bite out of me!

Of course he’s all alpha male, he’s a Scottish warrior. No one was penetrating his walls, castle or heart. So he thought. Ava had other plans, and she wasted no time carrying them out. She also thought her walls were inpenetrable, but Tor proved her wrong. She first worked her way into his mother’s heart (naturally… there was no plotting involved) and then she wrapped his men around her finger.

The plot setup was good, and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen. Timid Grace balanced out Ava’s feistiness, but I loved Ava’s sense of adventure, her loyalty, and her desire to protect. In these, and other areas, she was the perfect match for Tor.

The romance started out a little thinner than I’d expected. They ended up kissing alot, and for a moment I thought the relationship would be based soley on their physical attraction. Throughout the story, I wished for Ava to just be honest, especially since Tor had been deceived into the marriage before, but I guess there wouldn’t have been much of a story if she’d confessed early on. My feelings went back and forth. I really liked her in most regards; but I liked Tor as well, and she could’ve (and should’ve) been honest with him, especially at the point that he told her he only wanted an heir.

Anyway the story was pretty good. I liked the supporting characters, and I’m always up for the Scottish. 🙂

Rating system: Cups of Coffee (the less the better)

0: You won’t need any coffee to stay up for this one. It’s intriguing enough all on its own.
1: You’ll stay up late, but not all night. Brew one cup.
2: You’ll read as long as you’re not tired. If you are, two cups should do the trick.
3: I hope you got plenty of rest; you’ll need it, or at least 3 cups.
4: If the cable goes out, read the book. It’s better than nothing, I guess. Oh, don’t forget your brew!
5: Find anything else to do- it doesn’t matter what it is. Don’t waste your coffee. Too much caffeine is bad for you.

My rating: 2 cups of coffee

He ignored her pity. “If I am to choose a bride, she would have to be someone I deem worthy. Someone who wouldn’t perish during the first winter storm or hide under the bed if troops came to take the castle.”
“I am actually noted for my resistance to illness,” she said, intertwining her slender fingers together before her skirts. “As well as my reluctance to crawl under furniture.”
He moved closer, an idea forming. The woman was brazen, unpredictable, and she thought she had the upper hand with that bloody camp of English just across the way. But if she thought it best to break the betrothal, he would accommodate her. And the best way to scare off a virgin, even a brazen virgin, was to give her a taste of fire.
“How about passion, lass?” He leaned down to her ear. “Are ye reluctant to crawl under my sheets?” She inhaled quickly as he pulled her against his body, one hand guiding her head while the other pressed against her back. Her eyes widened as he descended for the kiss.
He met her mouth with every intention of being frightening and hard. How dare this Englishwoman come onto his island, demanding he drop his mountainous pile of obligations as chief and sacrifice his freedom to wed her? But the moment he felt the soft warmth of her lips, the ripe feel of her body in his arms, against his length, the kiss changed. She tasted of woman and innocence wrapped together with awakening heat. He threaded his fingers through her hair to cup her face without breaking contact. Her cheeks were smooth against his rough palms, and instead of yanking away, she remained rooted to the ground.
With a slight tilt of her face, their lips melded intimately as she met him with the same intensity, moving in rhythm with him like they’d been tupping for years. The thought made a low growl creep up his throat before he realized it, nearly escaping as a groan. But he wouldn’t give her that triumph.
Dainty but strong fingers curled into his shirt, holding her to him as he bent to surround her on three sides. Yet he gave her room to escape. If she’d just step back, surrender to the contest, but she didn’t. Were her heels dug into the floor?
His pulse thrummed as fire swept through his body, and thoughts of victory turned to smoke. Tor’s fingers loosened pins and curls as he slid his fingers through her bound hair.
A gasp. “Tor, unhand that lass this minute.” His mother’s voice doused his desire with ocean spray.
As if breaking through the surface of the sea, Tor released Ava’s lips, but he still held her body. Her eyes were closed, her lips damp, cheeks flushed, hair tumbling free around her shoulders. She blinked, waking to stare straight into his eyes. But instead of fear or better yet, barely controlled passion, he saw something that cooled his blood more thoroughly than his mother’s scolding.
Contempt.

Her words were a soft issue from kiss-swollen lips. “So then,” Ava whispered. “You are a beast.”

5 Star Review –

I loved this story. From the very beginning I was on the edge of my seat until I finished it several hours later. I couldn’t put the book down. I needed to know what was going to happen to Darien and Erika next. Fast paced from the first word and with several surprises I’d highly recommend this book.

Excerpt

Darien inhaled a deep breath, and chugged the final mouthfuls. He placed the glass on the night table and tossed back the sheets, forgetting he was naked, and being ogled by three gay men, one of whom was obviously excited at his naked presence. Darien pointed at his sweat pants resting on the floor. “Somebody hand me those, please. ‘Cause with the hard-on he’s got going there, I’m not bending over to pick’em up.”
Sandee tossed him his sweats. “We’ll let you get dressed. Lennie’s making breakfast.”
The man who handed him the hangover cure smiled. “Hope you like French toast and bacon.”
Darien’s stomach rumbled. “Love some. Kinda hungry. I’ll be right out.”
After dressing and eating breakfast, Darien settled back in his chair and released a long sigh.
“Feeling better this morning?” His brother grinned.
Darien nodded. “Yeah. Thanks. I so owe you.”
“Hell yes, you do. First time Alonzo and I get the same night off in months, and you blow in bloody as hell, trying to escape from a Triad hit.” Brian gulped back his coffee. “So now we just have to figure out how to hide you.”
“Blond.”
Darien glanced at Stewart.
“Dye his hair blond and shave the face fuzz, and no one’s going to know who he is.”
Brian pushed his chair back and stood. “Pretty drastic, but a good idea, until you can get out of here.” He tossed his dishes in the sink.
Darien rubbed his chin. “Won’t be on tour for a while, so I can always grow it back. I don’t want to die and I’m gonna, if they find me.”
Sandee swallowed the last of his breakfast. “Do you know if they are looking for you? The cops, I mean.”
“I’d say they are.” Lennie looked up. “Watched the news this morning, and the cops have the security video from the Dragon. They did a body count and you’re missing. They have your face on the TV asking if anyone’s seen you.”
“Shit!” Darien thumped his hand on the table. “The cops are gonna want to know what I know about this. Bleeding Sun’s gonna wanna know if I saw their shooters, and Nai Jâhng’s gang is probably very curious about how I ended up being the only person who got out alive. They’re gonna assume I was involved.” He rested his elbows on the table and dropped his head into his hands. “I am so fucked.”
“Not necessarily.”
Darien’s brow furrowed as he stared at Stewart, who waggled his eyebrows at Brian.
“Brilliant.” Brian grinned at his brother. “Question. Can you walk in high heels?”

EXCERPT:

A sickly smell reached Zack; at the same time a sense of foreboding settled over him. He hadn’t noticed it at first, presuming it was from the kitchen remains. But this was something else.

He swallowed, trying not to breathe as he made his way towards the room. It had to be the bedroom—the only room yet unexplored.

“Stay here,” he growled to Radha. The rustling behind him stopped.

He tugged the sleeve of his hoodie over his hand as he reached for the knob. Careful not to leave any prints, he opened the door.

The smell assaulted him immediately, making him gag. His eyes watered, and he blinked to clear them.

“What is it?” Radha asked.

He didn’t know how to answer. Louis—at least, he assumed it was Louis—lay on the thin carpet. Dried blood, black in the wan light, pooled beneath him. Flies buzzed and writhed around him. He no longer looked human—a specialist would need to tell them how long he’d been there, but Zack’s best guess was about a week—the length of time he’d been missing.

Louis hadn’t fled to Mexico with the casino’s money. He’d bled to death on his bedroom floor.

The puzzle pieces shifted and rearranged themselves in his mind, becoming more entwined and complex, leaving gaping holes of knowledge.

“What?” Radha’s voice was thinner now, anxiety dripping from the word. She shuffled closer, and Zack wrenched the door shut. He spun, blocking her with his body, forbidding her from entering that room. She didn’t need to see her friend like that.

“I’m sorry, Radha.” He kept his arms out, stretched across the hall in case she tried to dart around him. Instead, she stared up at him as tears pooled in her eyes.

“He’s not…” she couldn’t finish.

“I’m so sorry,” Zack repeated.

The tears slipped from her eyes and slid down her cheeks. She let out a gasping sob, and Zack gathered her into his arms and half-carried her out the front door. He breathed in deep gulps of the fresh night air as he held her close.

She cried quietly against his chest, and all Zack could do is offer murmured words of comfort as he stroked her back. When was the last time he’d comforted a woman? Held her close?

Too long.

“We need to call the police,” Zack told her softly as her tears subsided.

She nodded, eyes vague. “Yes.”

“They’ll need to ask us some questions,” he warned her.

“Of course.” The nod was slower this time.

“Radha, you’ll have to tell them about the strange finances at the casino.”

At this, her eyes snapped to his. “Why? We can’t tell them.”

“I think it’s best we do,” he coaxed softly.

“But it doesn’t have anything to do with…” Her eyes widened as it dawned on her. He had to say it aloud, anyway.

“He was murdered, Radha. And there’s every chance it was to do with the casino.”

Author Bio:

Aislinn is an Australian Expat living in Qatar. She completed a Bachelor of Arts in English and History, which she loved, and then went on to do a Masters in an unrelated field. She now largely pretends that last degree never happened.

Due to the reasons behind his father’s demise, Max has vowed to never bed a woman, let alone take a wife. He doesn’t want to put a woman (or child) through what his father put his family through; so although he’s enjoyed the pleaure of a woman he’s never gone all the way. He can’t take the chance of impregnating anyone. However, this doesn’t prevent him from wanting, and when it comes to Phoebe, whom he’s admired from a distance, needing. Having his nephew not only allows him to give the child the life his sister would’ve wanted for him, but it also give him a chance to be a father. Something he doesn’t see for himself because of his fear. Also, his mother is grieving herself sick over his sister’s death. She needs time to heal, and the child needs space to grow and just be a kid.

Phoebe is well aware of Max’s reputation as a rake, but the full truth gradually comes to light as she spends more time with him pretending to be his fiance. In order to keep her secret just that – a secret, she has to go along with his dastardly plan. She expected to be betrothed for six weeks. What she hadn’t expected was to fall for her husband, nor for him to fall for her. They go together like hot buns and raspberry jam, and once they get a taste, they’re both hooked. What would happen if they went all in, or shall I say, Max went all in :)?

Well, you’ll just have to read the book to find out.

The witty repartee is just part of what makes this story so yummy. Hahn’s vivid description engages all five senses, and readers will anticipate the lovers’ first deep physical connection on a whole new level. I did wish I could’ve known more about their past intereactions together. It’s clear that they’ve met a couple of times before. I’m sure this is probably in the first book, To Win a Lady’s Heart, but unfortunately I have not yet read that one. Emphasis on the yet :).

Nonetheless, I connected to them. Phoebe is patient, but forceful at the same time. She doesn’t want to give up on Max, and she tries her best to get him to come around and open up to her. They each have a secret, but she’s not privy to his as he is hers, and that disadvantage weighs on her. Not because of the unfairness of it all, but because she cares for him and can see he’s hurting. Through it all, they did find time to enjoy each other, making this a well-balanced story. I enjoyed reading their story and I wish to revisit them in the future.

She rocked against him—just once. Almost experimentally. Except with a certain awareness of exactly what it was her bottom was up against. “I stretched, and how wonderful it felt.”
“You’re teasing me, wench.”
“I’m not a wench, I’m your wife. Do you want me to go on, or not?”
His lips in a grim line, he gave a single nod.
“Very well.” She cleared her throat. “I wanted to explore myself, and I wanted to explore you. But you weren’t there.”
“So you had only one option.”
She pulled back and gave him a look that could have put the strictest governess to shame. Oh, what it did to him. “I’m telling this story, husband.”
“Then tell it. Please, tell it.”

Q&A with Ingrid Hahn

Q: Name one thing you won’t leave home without.
Definitely my head. Thankfully, I’m not a screw top, so I can always remember it. Everything else is fair game.

Q: If you could trade places with anyone for just one day, who would you be?
I can’t decide between two choices. Either Cleopatra right after she met Mark Antony, but I won’t tell you why. Or some chick inside a perfume commercial. You get to be gorgeous, perfectly made up, and there is usually a not-too-hard-on-the-eyes guy around. (That goes for perfume lady—Cleopatra wasn’t the gorgeous siren she’s depicted as being in popular myth.) The perfume lady has the bonus of either getting to wear a big fancy dress or lazing around a private beach.

Q: What types of scenes are your most favorite to write?
The naughty ones.

Q: Is anything in your book based on real life experiences or purely all imagination?
I put a tiny, tiny bit of myself into each heroine in a superfluous way. My first heroine, Grace, loved chocolate and has less-than-perfect hair (far less, I’m afraid). My second, Phoebe, is a big reader and loves tea. My third, Eliza—her book is coming in June—hates cherries. However, unlike Eliza, I came by my dislike honestly. I just plain don’t like them. I won’t spoil it for you, but Eliza came by her dislike by way of an abhorrent association.

Q: Do you have any advice to give to aspiring writers?
Let go of your ego, never stop learning, work hard to nail good conflict, learn to encapsulate your entire story in one pithy statement that makes strangers’ eyes bulge and beg you to write the book immediately (I’m still working on this one!). Don’t self-publish too early. Give yourself permission to turn into a seething green jealousy monster even for writer friends you love dearly when they achieve something you covet, but cap your time in The Great and Terrible Land of Envy to about ten or twenty minutes, then go back to being happy for them and focusing your energy on your own work.

Bound by honor and by love…
That’s a Montana Man

Ford Kendrick has often dreamed of the day that Jamie Keller would come home to Montana. After high school, she needed to leave—and he, duty-bound to rescue his family’s ranch, pushed her to go. The Army made Jamie a hero, but Ford still sees the gorgeous, loving woman who lit up his whole world.

Every day since she left, Jamie has longed for Ford. One glimpse confirms it: the sexy, dangerous-looking cowboy left a hole in her heart that nothing else can fill. Yet the battle scars she bears—inside and out—won’t let her trust anyone enough to get close.

Ford wants to bring Jamie back to the life they dreamed of building. But locked somewhere in her memories is a dark truth that threatens her safety. It’s a battle Ford won’t let her fight alone, not when he’s determined to keep her by his side, now and always…

tastytoursreview

Oh Ford, how do I love the…way you look out for Jamie, the way you selfishly let her go so she could make a better life for herself, the way you’ve remained dedicated to her throughout the years, and the way you stepped up without hesitation when she returned and needed you.

Ford, like the other Kendrick brothers, is swoon-worthy. His Firefly (his nickname for Jamie) has always owned his heart, and he has no problem letting it be known. She’s suffering from PTSD, which results in some rather radical behavior, but she’s still the same to him. He sees past her demons and loves her unconditionally. She knows she has issues, and she doesn’t want Ford to see her in her current state; but her feelings for him are too strong to permanently push him away. Holding strong, he’s by her side every chance he gets and he makes time to be there for her. She becomes his number one obligation. True to their family’s nature, his brothers, their wives, and Grandpa are right there in full support. I absolutely love this family.

I didn’t care for Jamie’s mother at all. My heart went out to Jamie and Ford and all they’d sacrificed for those they loved. It’s a true testament to real love, and I rooted for them the whole way. I liked the way Ford announces his presence so he doesn’t startle her. He’s so kind and patient. Jamie’s just as loyal, dedicated, and in love with him as he is with her, and that love was the push she needed to get better. She wanted that life they’d always talked about, and I admired the way she threw all her energy into getting better. She didn’t just concentrate on herself though. She always had Ford and his well-being in the front of her mind, and she made efforts to give to him as well. I just love them.

It’s always a pleasure to catch up with past characters. Rory and Sadie, Colt and Luna, Dane and Belle, and all the other Montana Men and their women. And let’s not forget Grandpa Sammy. Such a character (no pun intended 😉 ). I love the interactions between the brothers. The sexual tension between the couples can choke a few horses, and we romance lovers know how much fun that adds to the story.

As in Ryan fashion, there’s a mystery to solve. I did figure it out, but that took nothing away from the story itself. What I love most is watching it all unfold.

I want more!

Jennifer Ryan – His Cowboy Heart

Meet My Hero

Ford Kendrick is a genuine nice guy, trying to do the best he can for his family, ranch, and the woman he loves, even when he sends her away for her own good. It’s a sacrifice he’s willing to make for her happiness. But when she returns broken in heart and soul, he’ll do everything he can, even if it’s to just be the friend she desperately needs. Ford isn’t about to give up on Jamie until she’s well and happy again. His patience, unwavering dedication to her recovery, and steadfast resolve to push her to be better and give her a helping hand when things don’t go her way all help Jamie to overcome her obstacles. But it’s his love through the good times and bad that bring them back together.
Excerpt:
He wanted to be the beacon in her life that brought her back from the dark world her memories sucked her into every second of the day. He wanted to give her everything they’d talked about and planned back when things were simple and easy between them. Now, just getting her to eat seemed a complicated maneuver to convince her he meant no harm and only had her best interests at heart.
She thought he pitied her. Not so. He admired her tenacity, but hated that her complicated past broke her down to the point her life became nothing but endurance.
She’d survived hell and come home, but hell followed her.
She couldn’t escape, didn’t know how, but she kept fighting. He’d help her. He wouldn’t give up on her. He wouldn’t let her suffer alone.

Ford isn’t the only hero in His Cowboy Heart. Jamie is a military vet. She’s risked her life for our country and to save her fellow soldiers. But it’s her inner strength, determination, and dedication to healing, even when she backslides, that prove heroes don’t have to be perfect, they just have to persevere.
Excerpt:
She wanted so much to go back in time and change the course of her life. She wanted Ford to ask her to stay, not tell her to go. She wanted to have the life they dreamed about, but seemed like some other woman’s wish because she wasn’t that person anymore. She wanted to be that hopeful girl again, but couldn’t fight reality. She’d never be the same again. This version of herself wanted to run. From the nightmares. That terrifying black hole in her mind. From Ford. Herself.
Damnit, she was so tired of fighting herself, the dark thoughts in her mind and the feeling of defeat that swamped her sometimes, and especially fighting what she felt for Ford. She didn’t want to do it anymore.
Time to declare a cease fire with herself.
I’ll take care of myself.
I’ll be kinder to myself.
I’ll allow myself to believe good things still happen.

WOL_NEW2017.2 (1)Blurb

Tempest Braden adores her family and her small hometown, but sometimes too much of a good thing can be confining. At almost thirty, having watched most of her siblings find true love, she’s anxious to experience her own happily ever after, and the move to Pleasant Hill, Maryland, is just the change she needs. When she rents a room from ruggedly handsome, and closed-off, artist Nash Morgan and his adorable son, Phillip, she thinks she’s found a little slice of heaven on the outskirts of town, where she can concentrate on building her business. That is, if she can ignore the undeniable heat between her and the sinfully hot single father.

When Nash bought his farmette, he had one goal in mind—to provide a loving, stable home for his son. He never imagined he’d be raising Phillip alone, or renting out a room to keep their heads above water. Then again, he never imagined losing his brother, or spending two years sailing around the world with parents who seemed to forget one son was still alive.

Sparks fly from the moment Tempest moves in, and her positive energy and inquisitive nature brings new life into Nash and Phillip’s quiet, confined world. For the first time in years, Nash wants to let a woman into his world, but while his loss made him stronger, that strength came at a price, leaving him walled off and wary of opening his heart again.

tastytoursreview

I can’t fully explain how excited I was to receive Tempest’s story and how much I love it, but I’ll try.

Here goes…something

I love the Bradens just like I love the Ryders and everything else Foster has written that I’ve had the pleasure of reading. Don’t doubt that I’m trying to read everything. She’s one of my favorite authors and this story is another example of why.

I’ve always loved Tempest’s character and her easy-going, laid-back, but cautious, personality. It took me no time to start crushing on the brooding, hot, single daddy Nash and to lose my heart to his adorable son, Phillip. Tempest has never been a wild-child and her immediate and intense attraction to Nash almost floors her. The fact that he seems to be drawn to her as well doesn’t aid in her attempts to be sensible. They hit it off from the beginning, but they take things slow (or slow enough for us romance lovers). They are both responsible and ambitious, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that they are red-blooded individuals. The way Tempest breezes into their life and shakes things up without complicating them is pure gold. While attempting to break down Nash’s walls, she lets some of her own crumble. Their emotional connection is as immediate as their physical attraction and the sexual tension between the two is enough to cut metal, something a true artist such as Nash can appreciate.

Nash hasn’t always had the easy family life that Tempest has. He had it once before, but it’s been shattered leaving him a shell of who he used to be. He’s a great father. He puts his son first, but his attempts to protect him has hindered Phillip in many ways, and with Tempests’s calm demeanor and patience, father and son begin to find more pleasure in life. Their existence has always been peaceful, but they lacked socialization skills and their communication (other than the way they can read each other) could use a little help.

I enjoyed meeting new characters as much as I enjoyed getting reacquainted with old ones; and as always, Foster’s writing is impeccable. As with other stories, the climax is mild and almost drama free, but just as satisfying (probably more so) as the more tense ones of other writers. I feel a certain peace with Foster’s stories, and I always crave more whenever one comes to an end. She has a gift when it comes to character development, smooth flow, and perfect pace. She’d definitely crafted another winner! Kudos, Kudos and more Kudos!

The sound of tires on gravel drew his attention. He scooped Phillip into his arms, locked the goat pen, and grabbed the buckets.
“Visitor,” he said, carrying Phillip toward the house and eyeing the Prius parking behind his old Ford pickup truck. His truck was a gas guzzler, but as much as he hated that, he needed the bed of the truck to haul the furniture he made into town. He hoped Tempest Braden, the woman coming to see the room he was renting out, wasn’t a preachy tree hugger. Hell, he hoped she would turn out to be the silent type so he could pretend she didn’t live in their house.
Phillip’s brows knitted, his hands firmly planted around Nash’s neck. He wasn’t used to visitors. The last several people who had come to see the room they had for rent hadn’t been the kind of people Nash wanted around his son. They’d rubbed him the wrong way—too aggressive, too loud, too shady, too flighty. He just needed a stable, responsible person to rent the room so he could afford to upgrade a few of his tools and start saving for Phillip’s future. He tightened his grip on his son and headed up to meet the tall blonde stepping from the car.
Her wispy skirt fluttered around her knees. Large pink roses with muted green leaves looked as if they’d been thrown onto the flimsy white material haphazardly. A fringe of lace lined the edges. On anyone else the flouncy, floral skirt might look immature. But her legs went on forever, and coupled with her tight, curve-hugging tank top, she looked like Sweet and Sexy collided at the corner of Sinful Temptation.
She turned as he approached, and Nash stopped in his tracks, standing still as a stone. The setting sun caught her hair, highlighting several different shades of blond in long, cascading layers that hung to the middle of her back. Her nose was slightly upturned, and she had a cute, rounded chin. He’d never seen such natural beauty. WOL_quote3
She smiled and tilted her head. “Nash?”
Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, he forced his legs to carry him forward. “Yes. Tempest?”
She met him halfway up the hill. “Thanks for seeing me so quickly.” She peered into the buckets. “I hope I’m not interrupting.”
“Evening routine. Did you have any trouble finding us?” She was even more beautiful up close. Her hair was tousled, as if she hadn’t brushed it all day, and her eyes were so light blue, they had starbursts of white around the pupils, sparkling like diamonds. It had been a long time since any woman had caught Nash’s interest, and he reminded himself to rein in that attraction. The last thing he needed were complications in Phillip’s life. Even for a girl with the most spectacular blue eyes he’d ever seen.
“No. Your directions were perfect.” She smiled at Phillip, and when she spoke again her voice was soft as a summer’s breeze. “What’s your name, cutie pie?”
Phillip’s fingers dug into his neck. Nash nodded his approval.
“Flip,” Phillip said.
Tempest’s eyes widened with amusement. “Flip? That’s a unique name.” That beautiful smile lit up her face again. “I’m Tempest, but everyone calls me Tempe. It’s nice to meet you both.”WOL_quote2
When she turned that smile on Nash, his entire body heated up. As a sea lover, he knew the word tempest meant a violent storm. It was obvious what type of unexpected storm this sweet-natured, soft-spoken beauty could cause, and he couldn’t afford to be caught in a squall.
“My son’s name is Phillip.” He said it faster than he’d meant to, and realized his son’s name came out sounding like Flip. He’d also said it harsher than he’d intended. Reeling in his attraction was going to make him look like an asshole.
“Then Flip it is.”
The way she said it sounded so damn cute, he wasn’t about to correct her.
“Flip,” Phillip repeated.
“Come on, I’ll show you the room.” He caught a whiff of her floral perfume on the way inside. It had been a long time since he’d smelled anything so feminine. Maybe this housemate thing wasn’t such a good idea after all.

Author Bio:

Ever since I began writing and publishing books I’ve been on the run, always trying to write the next page, the next chapter, the next book. Every story was another journey, another discovery of what I could do and another evolution. All these years my motto was it doesn’t matter who I am or where I come from, but what I leave behind is. I thought I have it all figured out.

Socrates, one of the biggest philosophers to ever grace humanity once said, “I am talking a crock of s***.” I had no idea this expression dated hundreds of years ago and belongs to him, but who am I to argue with him? Needless to say, after some soul searching I realized my motto was a . . . pot of smelly stuff. I had a meltdown because, if you think about it, why would what I leave behind matter more than who I am here and now in this very moment? How will I ever know if what I left behind mattered with no way of seeing it? How am I gonna enjoy it? Think Socrates; does he know how much he touched humankind? Does he know people still remember him centuries later? And if he knows, does it make a difference?

I’m not sure. Frankly I doubt with all my heart it makes any difference to him. He’s gone, like I’ll be gone one day and instead of beating myself up to leave something behind me, I’m going to learn how to live here, now and totally enjoy it. No more worrying about tomorrow, but live today. No more five-year plans, but rather let the sun soak my skin, the air fill my lungs and the grass touch my feet. After all, I only live once.

tastytoursreview

Sarah is somewhat of a loner, but she does have friends and a job she enjoys. Sam is eye candy with a knack for taking charge. Together, they make a cute couple when Sam is not taking advantage and Sarah is not trying to get revenge. Sweet revenge, but revenge nonetheless. 🙂 Don’t get me wrong, she doesn’t do anything illegal or immoral, she just sets out to show her BFF that underneath her granny exterior is a sexy vixen (in her own sweet way).

I liked both characters although I would’ve enjoyed having more indepth knowledge of them. It’s stated that Sarah’s parents abandoned her, and that she moved away temporarily and came back. It’s also known that she and Matt met in the sixth grade, but there’s not a lot of backstory to add much depth. Sarah has always wanted a family, but how has it really affected her? I would’ve like to know more about her through her actions, not just because her feelings are stated. She is organized (which makes her career as a planner fit), but she loves cooking and is extremely good at it. It’s kinda conflicting that she puts so much thought and energy into her cooking, but only wants it to be a hobby. As if it’s not that important to her. To offset so much knowledge about food, I would’ve liked to read more about how she handles her planning job because as written, it seems only right that she should be a chef, or aiming to be one and planning is something for the moment. It’s obvious Sam is all about wine. Not too obvious (except for her saying it) that Sarah is all about her planning position.

I love Sam’s nickname for her, Sarah Bear (and a lot of times he just says Bear). They look out for each other (as BFFs do) and they really are a cute couple. I was a little bothered by Sarah’s refusal to listen to him regarding the red-head at the contest. It was the classic cliche overreaction after seeing something that wasn’t what it appeared to be. That misunderstanding could’ve been resolved quickly had she not kept running away and avoiding him. It was childish on her part, which didn’t fit her otherwise mature personality. And it definitely went against the fact that they were indeed best friends. She should’ve at least listened.

Now the big secret was a different story. I understood her needing space before discussing that particular boo-boo. Sam was so wrong, although he hadn’t meant to hurt her and had every intention of coming clean. They both had some growing up to do. I enjoyed reading about the contest tho. It was original. I had mixed feelings about some of the things that took place (like Sarah just outight admitting they were really not a couple although she knew that was a requirement of the contest), and nobody making an issue about that little white lie. If it was a requirement, why was it ok to let a judge know that they’d fudged the truth? And why wasn’t that judge surprised or at least a little bothered by the revelation? That was kinda strange to me. It’s like being set up for something and then being left hanging.

The premise and dialogue are good. The flow was a tad questionable. The first sex scene (and by the way the heat level is not a 3, but more like a 1, if that) came out of nowhere and needed some more to lead up to it to make it believable. Everything happened too fast even for lovers who’d been best friends since 6th grade (and they’re now in their late twenties).

Overall, it was an ok read. It’s light and fun, although a little swiss-cheesy (full of holes).

Pamela Gibson grew up loving books, history, and small towns. Her first career was a newspaper reporter, but when she returned to college to get a master’s degree, it was in public administration which eventually led to jobs running cities…not as an elected official, but as a city manager, the chief appointed one.

Writing was still her passion and in her spare time—between meetings and raising two active kids—she was contracted to write several books on local history. Taking an early retirement at the urging of her very supportive husband, she turned to fiction and began writing the happy ending novels she loves to read.

She now spends half her time on land and the other half cruising coastal or inland waters in her 32-foot boat. She speed-eats chocolates when she’s nervous, squeals when she sees a spider, and loves to relax with a good read with a mellow glass of wine.

Sarah moved around behind him. Her subtle perfume blended with the smells in the kitchen. “Do you think my label is okay?”
“They’re not judging your label. They’re judging how well the food and wines complement each other.”
“You’re right.” He set the bottle down and turned to greet his friend, but she wasn’t there. In her place stood a siren—that’s the first word that came to mind—in tight leggings that hugged her hips and bared her midriff, and a fitted shirt that tied under plump breasts, showing a hint of cleavage.
What the hell?
But it was the hair that got his attention.
“What have you done to your hair?”
She twirled in front of him, letting her hair swing from side to side provocatively. It looked lighter, and it looked like she had way more hair. “Where are your glasses?”
“I’m wearing contacts. Do you like this look?” She batted her eyelashes at him and moved closer.
He stepped back, aware of an unaccustomed heat he’d never felt in Sarah’s house before. She was his friend. She shouldn’t look like this.
She seemed to be waiting for his answer, but he didn’t know what to say.
“It’s…different.”
She laughed and put her hand on his chest. It left a warm spot there. He couldn’t back up any more, because the edge of the counter was biting into his backside.
“Do you think people will believe we’re a couple now, Mr. Hot Guy?” Her voice was low and sexy, her soft mouth curved into a secret smile.
“Geez, Sarah. You didn’t have to change your appearance.”
“Sure I did. We’re supposed to be a couple in a committed relationship. I have to look like the girls you date. I have to be warm and affectionate, and look at you like you’re my dessert course.” She paused and ran her tongue over her bottom lip. “Let’s see. What would you be? A chocolate soufflé, puffed and pretty on the outside and dark and intense on the inside, with flavors that slide over the tongue and linger there to be savored later, making you crave more.”
The room was suddenly hot. How would he concentrate on wines when she looked—and talked—like that? And how would he keep guys at the resort away from her?
His eyes fixed on her cleavage. “Could you go put on a sweatshirt or something? We need to get down to business.”
Sarah laughed, showing dimples in her cheeks. She had dimples? Why hadn’t he noticed before?
“I’m sorry Sam. The deer-in-the-headlights look on your face is priceless. But you’re going to have to get used to the new Sarah…at least for a week. We need to be convincing. Isn’t that what you said last time you were here?
He shoved his fingers through his hair. “Did I?”
“No more playacting right now. Pour the wines, and let’s start tasting with food.”
