Carrigan O’Malley has always known her arranged marriage would be more about power and prestige than passion. But after one taste of the hard-bodied, whiskey-voiced James Halloran, she’s ruined for anyone else. Too bad James and his family are enemy number 1.

Hallorans vs. O’Malleys-that’s how it’s always been. James should be thinking more about how to expand his family’s empire instead of how silky Carrigan’s skin is against his and how he can next get her into his bed. Those are dangerous thoughts. But not nearly as dangerous as he’ll be if he can’t get what he wants: Carrigan by his side for the rest of their lives.

Book Review

James and Carrigan rule!

Members of rival Irish mobster families, these two got a taste of each other and became hooked. Carrigan tried to fight her attraction to James, but he wasn’t having it. He knew it wasn’t a good idea, but he’s not the one to deny himself the pleasures of life, or at least that wasn’t his usual plan. When his father’s extensive (let’s face it, he’s not getting out) stint in prison thrusts him into the driver’s seat, his upbringing is no match for his inherent good side. He knows what needs to be done, but he’s willing to go only so far.

Carrigan is just as drawn to James as he is to her, but she’s tired of being controlled. When her father demands she picks a groom off a list of men he’s compiled; she knows it’s only a matter of time before she’s permanently shackled to someone she’s not the least bit interested in or even attracted to. What’s a girl to do? Have a little fun while she can, and if she can throw in a little FU to dad by having said fun with the head of the family he loathes (not to mention the man that kidnapped her in The Marriage Contract), then why the hell not? Kill two proverbial birds with one horny stone!

In true Robert’s expert fashion, Carrigan and James are a tad complex, albeit well-developed characters. They generate enough heat to warm a large Irish village through three winters, and the witty repartee is the hottest foreplay. Their bold, straightforward behavior fits their roles, and it’s pure genius how Robert’s allows them to express their feelings without contradicting what is known of their characters. They show their love for each other by not just being together, but by also being aware of how their actions could hurt the other, not to mention the damage their families would do, Carrigan’s in particular. James has his own family drama to deal with, and he somehow manages to keep one eye on that drama while the other remains on his relationship with Carrigan. She reciprocates by showing James how she feels (it’s too dangerous to publicize it) while at the same time attempting to protect him by going along with her father’s wishes. I had no clue how it would all play out – well I knew they’d end up together (that’s the rule), but the way it all unfolded was a total surprise.

I think the Wedding scene was my favorite (one of many) in this story. I was very excited to get another bit of Teague and Callie. I loved their story (The Marriage Contract). Cillian and Olivia’s story is introduced, and Robert did a superb job incorporating just enough of them to entice without bulldozering over James and Carrigan. There’s a nice little cliffhanger, too, regarding the Dmitri. Kudos!

But I’ve got bigger fish to fry—namely, her cousins Stefano and Santos Silva. They’re flooding the West Coast with deadly counterfeit goods, and I’m about to drop the net on their entire operation. To keep Gianna out of my way, I’ve agreed to help her but under one condition: What I say goes. No questions. No pushback. I make the rules.
The problem is Gianna Silva doesn’t know the meaning of the word “rule” and she’s on to me. For two years, I’ve hidden my true identity behind a wall built from stone-cold revenge. I thought it was indestructible—especially against someone with the last name of Silva—the family I’ve vowed to destroy…
If I could find my missing mom by myself I would, but the only enemies she’s ever had are my father and his powerful family. Confronting the Silvas alone is too dangerous. I need an insider who knows how to play their game. John Rossi, with his bad-boy confidence and access to the family compound is my best hope. I’ve bargained away the last dollar in my savings account in exchange for his help, but I’m beginning to think I made a deal with the devil.
I didn’t expect his rules to include sharing a cabin—and a bedroom with him—northwest of Nowheresville. I don’t trust him, or my attraction to him. But to find my mom, I’ll break every one of his damn rules, regardless of the consequences…

Genre: Contemporary Series Romance

Her worst enemy is the one man she can’t resist.

Maria Martinez thought it was a dream come true when Ritchie Perez—a sweet and sexy guy she met volunteering at a soup kitchen—took her delinquent little brother Joey under his wing. But her dream becomes a nightmare when she discovers Ritchie is the same man who put her twin brother Tito in prison for 10 years. Now Joey’s in trouble, and Ritchie’s been appointed his temporary guardian. He’ll be moving into Ritchie’s luxurious waterfront Miami home—unless he’d prefer a juvenile detention facility.

And if Maria wants to be with him, she’ll be moving in too.

Now a hugely successful attorney in private practice, Ritchie made his reputation as a tough prosecutor who didn’t make deals with drug dealers and gang members. But that history comes back to haunt him when the woman he’s falling for believes he’s responsible for convicting an innocent man, and destroying her family. Ritchie wants to stop Joey from making the same mistakes his brother did. And he wants Maria in his bed. But as desire heats their blood, will the past reach out and destroy their future?

Let me start out by writing that this is a very interesting premise. I was glad that it didn’t take the whole story (or even half of it) for them to realize they shared a past, although it was brief, but very painful. I wasn’t sure where the story would go, but I was anxious to find out.

I crushed on Ritchie…big time. He’s tough, yet gentle, fair, and straightforward. I really liked Joey, too. He was your typical teenager, and his transformation was believable, especially for his age. He needed a firm hand, and Ritchie was the perfect person to give it to him.

Now on to Maria. I wanted to like her. And occasionally, I did. But sometimes she just bugged the hell out of me. Sometimes to the point where I wanted Ritchie to kick her out and just keep Joey. Although I understood why she wanted to do things her way, her strength often came across as juvenile, bitchy, fussiness. I’m all for standing on your own two feet, but she had way too much pride, and she worked my last nerve about Tito. She just couldn’t admit that he was in prison because of his own behavior, and her constant need to point out that he’d been given the raw deal got on my last nerves and some I didn’t even know I had. I yelled out “Oh, shut up!” which is something I usually yell at the TV, not my kindle. Now how disturbing is that?

Ritchie and Joey carried the story for me. I also liked Ritchie’s mom. Now, I didn’t hate Maria, I just didn’t like her as much as I would’ve liked to, and I was glad that Ritchie stood his ground with her. I came to terms with the fact that they’d be together, and by the end I was ok with it.

Book Review: Inseverable by Cecy Robson

How can you imagine forever with someone who’s leaving everything behind?

Callahan, a former army sniper, wants to make an escape from his past and everything he experienced at war, but most of all, just not feel. Feeling leads to pain and he’s suffered enough. When he inherits a house on South Carolina’s Kiawah Island, he packs his bags, lured by the peace and seclusion he thinks it will bring. But, Callahan never counted on meeting anyone like Trinity . . .

Trinity has always been the cute, and funny one, who most guys overlook in pursuit of her “hot” friends. She became used to being everyone’s pal, until the day the young man she was attracted to, was drawn to her in return. He became her first great love, and first crushing heartbreak when she found him in bed with one of her closest friends.

To move forward, and to carry out her commitment to helping those in need, Trinity enlists in the Peace Corps, but not before returning to Kiawah for one last memorable summer. She just never imagined it would be so unforgettable.

Callahan doesn’t want to get close to anyone—let alone Trinity. He finds her perkiness insufferable and her attempts to entice a smile distracting. After all, he’s in Kiawah to leave all feelings behind. But when it comes to Trinity, who feels everything, it’s hard not to feel something.

Neither expected to fall in love. And no one could have predicted how inseverable they’d become.

Trinity is bubbly, fun-loving, patient, and sweet. All traits that Callahan finds it difficult to ignore. Although he’s struggling to rebuild his life and to deal with PTSD, he finds her presence surprisingly refreshing. At first he tries to push her away – in his own kinda-gentle way, but when she doesn’t take the hint (a hint she’s aware of but chooses to ignore), he finally succeeds in getting her to back off. Unfortunately, he can’t deal with that either.

She breaches his defenses and scales his emotional walls, bringing her close-knit group of friends right along with her. However, she’s keeping a secret that has the power to destroy him.

I’ve read other books by Robson; and although I enjoyed them, I must say this one is my favorite so far. I found myself laughing out loud several times. Trinity is a very unique character, and partnering her with the brooding Callahan was pure genius. I loved the whole superheroes thing; and although there was a little drama here and there, there wasn’t anything too dramatic. I was drawn to all of the characters, not just the H/H and the way the subplots are intertwined showcased Robson’s talent. The age difference (nothing obscene, of course) between them and the fact that Cal had experience a lot more life than Trinity helped balance them out. She showed him how to live a little and her actions fit her age. She wasn’t immature, but didn’t act older either.

The sexual tension and flirting between them were the optimum prelude to their physical intimacy. The climax is strong without being “too much”, and the ending wrapped up everything exquisitely. There’s a hint at what’s to come next. Not a cliffhanger, but more than enough to keep readers interested and anxious for the sequel.

Author Bio

History buff, Francophile, and hopeless romantic– the perfect mixture for writing romance! I have fond childhood memories of reading on quiet afternoons. I loved the “happily ever after” sweet teen romances, but I quickly plunged into the world of historical romance–my get-away-from-real-life transporter. Add in a degree in Political Studies with six years of French–twenty years later, I found a new career.

With three published works, I’m still trying to decide which sub-genre is my favorite. I started with historical romances, and two of the six, Pure of Heart and Pure Temptation, are now published. My first YA novel, Spirit of the Northwoods, was released in April of 2016 for my 17 year old autistic son during Autism Awareness month, hoping to spread familiarity about the daily struggles that an autistic person endures. Silence the Northwoods, the first book of my Romantic Suspense series, will be released on January 21, 2017. A spin-off of Spirit of the Northwoods, it has many of the same secondary characters, but it’s strictly for adults. I have a New Adult novel I’m working on for NaNaWriMo 2016, and I’d love to try my hand at a sweet romance YA series in the future.

I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with my husband of 21 years and my four children. I spend the long winters plotting and scheming my next book, and in the mild summers, my family and I spend every waking moment we can hiking and kayaking the Northwoods. Living fifteen miles from the shores of Lake Superior, my muse is often piqued by the awe-inspiring beauty that surrounds me. I live where I play, and I can’t imagine a more fitting place for me!

Anna Thompson looked up from her plate, peering at the hulking giant sitting in the booth across from her. Nic twirled the last bit of spaghetti on his plate, watching her with careful eyes as he stuffed the bite into his mouth and chewed. After introducing her to his older brother, Luc, who owned half the restaurant and worked as the head chef, Nic had indeed raided the ’fridge. He’d made three heaping plates of spaghetti and meatballs, complete with salad and what smelled like fresh garlic bread sticks.

The man made her insides shake. The resemblance was uncanny at best, terrifying at worst. If it weren’t for the other two waitresses, moving silently around the dining room as they cleaned up for the night, she wouldn’t have stayed. When she’d gotten her first look at Nic after that sweet waitress let her and Lacey in, she’d almost turned around a left. He looked so much like Tony her throat had closed. Both had the same dark brown hair and olive complexion so common in men of Italian decent. Nic’s eyes were different, though. Tony was dark all over, including his midnight eyes. Nic’s were a beautiful shade of amber, and, so far, always seemed to hold a hint of a smile.

She couldn’t deny he was good-looking. Ten years ago, before Tony, she might have flirted with his sexy smile, with those beautiful amber eyes. But he stood a good head and shoulders above her, his body thickly muscled. The power behind his large, muscular frame made her stomach lurch.

Nic set his fork on the side of his plate and folded his hands on the table in front of him. He inclined his head at Lacey. “She was hungry.”

Nic had given her enough pasta for a grown man, but Lacey had cleaned her plate. She’d then curled up in the corner of the booth and fallen asleep sitting up.

“And exhausted.” Anna shook her head, her face warming. “You must think I’m a horrible mother.”

What kind of mother couldn’t provide even a meal and a warm bed for her child?

Nic leaned back in the booth, studying her with shrewd eyes, as if he could see too much and had already figured her out. “Actually, I don’t. It takes guts to admit to a complete stranger you have nowhere to sleep.”

Regret twisted in Anna’s stomach. She shouldn’t have pushed them so hard this time. She should have stopped in Oregon, when Lacey begged her to camp on the beach again. Then at least they could have started tomorrow with a full belly, and with any luck, she might have found another job where she could work for a while to earn more money before they pushed on.

She’d been desperate to come here, to this tiny little town on an island in the middle of the Puget Sound. Tony had gotten too close this last time, and she’d run again, terrified he’d find them. Hope and sheer, stubborn determination were the only things keeping her going anymore.

A story of Noelle. The first novella in the Devi’s Bliss series by Mika Lane, writer of hot, sexy romance.
Noelle Berry is going places. She’s an in-demand sensual massage therapist at the famed Devi’s Bliss spa just outside San Francisco, nestled among the breath-taking redwoods of Marin County. She’s got a long-term plan to open her own business, which will set her up for life and give her the security she never knew growing up. But there’s one problem.
Her kid brother. Charming. Clever. Cute. But always in trouble.
To get him out of the home they grew up in, Noelle became Mikey’s guardian. But so far her good example has failed to teach him anything. Not responsibility, not ambition, not good judgment.
But when Mr. R comes to Devi’s Bliss for a massage, things seem like they might be turning a corner. Not only is he devastatingly handsome, he also wants to help her realize her dream. Right away. He even has a plan for Mikey. But can Noelle leave her past behind and trust him? Can she let him prove he’s different from the man in her life who hurt her the most?

As Noelle’s oiled hands worked Mr. R’s ankles, she glanced up the length of his body, impressed by the tent formed by the sheet draping over his erection. He parted his legs a bit more, presumably to make room for his swelling testicles, and he snored for the split second he drifted in and out of a nap. Her heart rate picked up, and the cotton of her robe chafed her roused nipples.

Mika Lane has been writing since, well, before she could write. When she was six she dictated her first poem to her father and still has the poster board he wrote it on. In third grade she wrote her first book, The Day I Ate the Milkyway, which still sits on her bookshelves today in its faded construction paper cover. In fourth grade she won the essay contest sponsored by the local newspaper so many times they barred her from entering again. In college, the only time she got A’s was when she could write a paper.
In all its forms, writing has been a passion of hers since a young age, but erotic romance is what gives purpose to her days and nights. Mika lives in the magical and funky San Francisco Bay Area. Steve Johnson is living his life’s passion watching over the Colorado Mountains as a ranger and wildlife consultant. But his peaceful life is upended when overzealous and insanely beautiful Shannon Braden flits back into his life after returning from a brief trip home to Maryland. He thought his attraction to her was under control—after all, she’s only in Colorado temporarily, and he doesn’t do casual affairs.
Shannon’s return to Colorado has as much to do with the game of cat and mouse she and Steve have been playing as it does the data she’s been hired to collect. But despite her efforts to explore the undeniable heat simmering between them, Steve’s intent on keeping his distance.

When a ranch abutting the national park goes up for sale, Steve will do whatever it takes to keep it from falling into the wrong hands. And when all his attempts fail, he’s left with no alternative but to follow Shannon’s guidance into the online world he abhors in order to raise the funds. The more time they spend together, the deeper their attraction becomes, and a game of cat and mouse turns into an unstoppable connection. But when Shannon’s assignment comes to an end, will it mean an end to them, too?

It was such a great treat to revisit this clan!!!

Steve loves nature. The only thing he loves as much as the mountain is solitude. He survives just fine without the internet, and a past love taught him that his lifestyle is an acquired taste. He fell for Shannon months earlier when they met at a wedding, but her need for socializing made it a bad idea for him to pursue her. All this rationale flew out the window when she hiked back into his life.

Shannon had never forgotten Steve. She wanted to know if they could have more, so when the opportunity to do research near him presented itself, she hopped at the chance.

Steve tries to resist her, but she doesn’t make it easy. She wants him, and since her newest mission in life is to make her own way and figure out what she really wants, she continues her gentle pursuit despite his reasons for keeping her at a distance romantically. Eventually, they give in to their desire with the understanding that it was just temporary sex. She’d go back to her life in Peaceful Harbor, and he continued his on the mountain.col_teaser_8

All I can say is I love them both! Shannon is effervescent and smart. Steve is a chivalrously sweet alpha male. There’s enough sexual tension to choke a mountain goat, and the flirting is not only sensual, but fun. I like that they’re so open and don’t play games with each other. I connected to them both from the beginning, and I rooted for them the whole time.

How can I not love their families and friends? Their lively exchanges made me laugh out loud a couple of times, and I was right there with them in every scene. There’s not one boring moment. I hated for it to end. I can’t wait to read the next in the series.

I’ve been a huge fan of Foster’s since the first book of hers I read, and this helped cement my place as a huge fan.

Rating system: Cups of Coffee (the less the better)

0: You won’t need any coffee to stay up for this one. It’s intriguing enough all on its own.
1: You’ll stay up late, but not all night. Brew one cup.
2: You’ll read as long as you’re not tired. If you are, two cups should do the trick.
3: I hope you got plenty of rest; you’ll need it, or at least 3 cups.
4: If the cable goes out, read the book. It’s better than nothing, I guess. Oh, don’t forget your brew!
5: Find anything else to do- it doesn’t matter what it is. Don’t waste your coffee. Too much caffeine is bad for you.

My rating: 0 cups of coffee

The sweet sounds of her humming floated into his ears, and he tried harder to deny the thrum of heat racing down his spine. He heard the crunching of leaves and his smile widened further. Damn, he needed to get a grip.
“Hey there, mountain man.”
He forced the foolhardy smile from his lips, replacing it with what he hoped was a less lustful one, and turned to find the all-too-chipper and insanely hot brunette. Her hair was piled on her head in a messy bun, a few dark tendrils curling past her shoulders. She held a mug in each hand. Curls of steam rose into the air. Her pink shirt hitched on her breasts, and he chalked that up to the list of things he was futilely trying not to react to. But his body wasn’t on board with the off-limits plan, and it brimmed with heat. It had been a hell of a lot easier to be around her when she was staying at her uncle’s house in town. At least then by the time he saw her she had a freaking bra on.
He dropped his eyes to avoid staring, but her flannel pajama pants hung low on her hips, revealing a sliver of taut skin just below her belly button. Christ, she was gorgeous. Striving for a safe view, he looked at her leather boots. Boots were safe. There was nothing sexy about boots. Bright pink laces hung loose over the dark leather, her pajama pants bunched around the tops, showing another flash of skin. He pictured her shoving her bare feet into them before jaunting out the door with her mind-blowing smile in place. There must be something wrong with him, because he found that sexy, too.
“You should lace those up.” He ran a hand through his hair, grinding his teeth against the way his entire body was buzzing like a live wire.
“Well, Mr. Safety. I missed you, too.” She thrust a mug toward him with a coy smile. “Just the way you like it. Bitter as weeds.”
She was too damn cute, too damn social, and too damn temporary for the likes of him.
He reached for the mug. “Thanks, Butterfly.” The nickname flew off his tongue without thought, just as it had the first time she’d flitted into his yard, turned his insides to fire, and flitted back out. He was surprised to realize he’d missed saying it while she was gone.
“No prob, Grizz.”col_teaser_5final
Grizz. Hell if he hadn’t missed that, too. Her eyes dropped to his bare chest, lingering long enough for him to feel it lower. Much lower. Her cheeks flushed, and she slid those gorgeous hazel eyes to his ax—the one in his hand, not the one in his pants.
“Preparing for a cold night, or thinking about becoming a serial killer?”
I wouldn’t have cold nights if you were in my bed. As if on cue, his body stirred again, reminding him it’d been far too long since he’d been with a woman.
“As interesting as becoming a serial killer sounds, I don’t think I’m cut out for it.”
“Right. It would require human contact.”
“I missed that smart mouth of yours,” he said sarcastically. He’d been fantasizing about her full lips and sassy mouth ever since they’d reconnected at Rex and Jade’s wedding several months ago. But she was only there until her project ended, so sarcasm it was.
“Heard you ride in with Cal last night. How long are you here for?” He hadn’t just heard her arrive. He’d gone out to see who was riding up the mountain and had seen her arms wrapped around Cal from behind as they rode past the overlook. In the moonlight they’d looked like a frigging Hallmark card.
“A few weeks. Four and a half, I think. Something like that.” She stretched one arm, flashing even more of her midriff.
Torture. Pure, exquisite torture.
“You could have called me to bring you up the mountain.” He shifted his eyes away, trying to figure out who had taken possession of his mouth. Called me? He had nothing against Cal. He was a nice guy and was one of the most respected horse trainers around. And he shouldn’t give a shit who Shannon was with. Sure, she was hot, smart, and he liked her ballsy attitude, but he liked his life just the way it was. The last thing he needed was a social butterfly like her bringing noise and chaos into his life, telling him what to do or how to live.
“I know.” She kicked at the dirt, her eyes downcast. “Treat and Max stopped by in the afternoon and I went into town with them to visit my uncle Hal and my cousins. Cal was there and he offered to drive me back, since he lives in Preston. It was only once we got back to his place that he suggested we ride up on horseback. Besides, you don’t exactly love going into town.”
Great, now he was stuck envisioning her at Cal’s sprawling horse ranch.
He finished his coffee and handed her the mug. “Thanks. It was perfect.” He turned to set another log on the stump. “You ought to be careful bringing guys up to your cabin,” he said with his back to her.col_teaser_4
“I thought I left my overprotective big brothers at home.” She sighed. “I hardly think Cal is a threat. He’s known Rex forever.”
Steve rested the ax over his shoulder, weighing his response. The last thing he wanted to be was her big brother, and he’d known Cal forever, too. Cal wasn’t the kind of guy to take advantage of a woman, but that didn’t stop Steve’s gut from churning at the thought of them cozied up together.
“He’s a friend, Steve.” She narrowed her eyes as he drew the ax back. “Don’t even try to pretend you don’t bring women up to your cabin.”
He arched a brow. That would be a big no fucking way. He liked his privacy.
Her jaw gaped. “What? Don’t you ever get bored? Lonely?”
“Not really,” he said as he swung the ax. It was a damned lie, at least since Shannon had flitted into his life, making him feel things he’d once been adept at ignoring.
“Why not? That’s not normal.” She finished her coffee and set the mugs on the ground as he split the log and set another one on the stump. “What do you do for sex?”
He laughed under his breath. “Seriously, city girl?”
“I’d hardly call Peaceful Harbor a city. It’s a beach town, and you’re avoiding the question.”
“Maybe because you’re asking questions you shouldn’t be asking.” He swung the ax and split another log.
She smirked. “Look at you, all big and brawny and afraid to talk about sex.”
“What’s gotten into you?” He set the ax-head on the ground and leaned on the handle. Before she’d gone home, he’d gotten away with a strategically placed Uh-huh. “I’m pretty sure you weren’t this curious about my sexual habits the last time you were on the mountain.”
Her eyes rolled over him, and he couldn’t tell if she was assessing or enjoying the view.
“I don’t know,” she said with a mischievous grin. “You’re standing there like a lumberjack. Six…what?”
“Three,” he said with a sigh.
“Right. Six three of shirtless, sweaty muscle, with your hair all tousled.” She moved her hands around her head, causing her shirt to lift up again. “You haven’t shaved in who knows how long, and you look like the guys on ‘Seriously Sexy Hot Guys’ Pinterest boards. A guy who looks like you can’t be going without.” She shrugged and her cheeks pinked up. “It made me wonder…”
“How about you wonder a little less?” Because hearing you talk about my sex life makes me want you in it. Front and center.
“Pinterest? What the heck is Pinterest?”
Her eyes widened with disbelief. “I forgot you know nothing about the real world. Pinterest is this awesome social media site—”
“Never mind. That’s so far from the real world it shouldn’t exist. People nowadays are content to sit inside and stare at screens, talking with people they don’t know instead of living their lives. Bodies are meant to move, Butterfly. Weather is meant to be experienced. If people were more like animals, the world would be a better place.”
He saw a hint of hurt in her eyes and felt bad. Sometimes he forgot that he wasn’t the only one protective of their lifestyle. He tried to change the subject to a lighter one.col_teaser_1
“What are you doing out here so early anyway?” he asked.
“The company offered me a new project, and my boss at my real job gave me a leave of absence to do it. I thought that was pretty cool of him. I’m going to be comparing the habits of gray and red foxes, and I’m here to scout the grays. You know how red foxes prefer edge habitats and grays prefer mountainous forestland?” Edge habitats were the boundary of two habitats, like field and forest. She didn’t wait for him to respond before continuing with her explanation. “They’re similar in life and history in almost every way, except for grays being shier and slightly smaller and where they make their dens. I’m going to study them to see if their behavioral patterns reveal reasons for the difference in habitat preference. I was hoping you’d have time to show me where I can find them.”
The request took him by surprise. She’d spent weeks researching red foxes and hadn’t once asked him to help her.
“No can do today, Butterfly.” He had a busy day planned. He’d caught a group of twentysomethings partying by one of the rock ledges last week and he’d spotted a few of them again yesterday. He needed to make the rounds to ensure they weren’t back and getting into trouble, and he had to head down the mountain to meet with his old buddies Mack and Will Cumberland. Yesterday he’d learned the Cumberland ranch was going up for sale: two hundred acres in Weston, adjacent to the national park where Steve had worked as a ranger and wildlife consultant for a decade. Steve had grown up in Weston, and though he lived two towns away now, his small-town roots ran deep. He wanted to try to convince his buddies to put the land into conservation instead of selling.
“Bummer. I was looking forward to catching up on all the crazy shenanigans you were up to while I was gone.” She waggled her brows with the tease.
He smiled and shook his head. “Be careful out there. I caught some kids partying recently. They’re probably harmless, but guys and alcohol…Just be careful. You got that Mace I left in your cabin?”
“That was you?” She narrowed her eyes and said, “You do realize I’m a grown woman, right?”
Christ, had he ever.
